How does working for Technical Employment Services differ from being a permanent employee elsewhere, or from working as an independent contractor?
Instead of falling into a set routine as a staff member of one company, you could experience working with a variety of organizations. Working on a contract basis for Technical Employment Services provides you with numerous opportunities to expand your experiences and learn new skills. Unlike working as an independent contractor, your assignments come from Technical Employment Services. You will not be required to sign any contracts. As a Technical Employment Services employee, you’ll receive your paychecks on time and with all required taxes withheld. Plus, you will qualify for our benefits package as stated in our Employee Brochure and listed on our Employee Benefits page. How do I get started? Just send us your resume. We’ll enter it into our automated resume database for quick, accurate matching to any positions that will fit your skills and requirements. I’ve sent my resume in. Now what?After we receive your resume, we scan it into our database. From that point, our recruiters will have access to your resume as they perform searches to fill our clients’ positions. If a recruiter identifies your resume as a potential match to a Job Order, they will contact you to discuss the position. If you are qualified and interested in the position, the recruiter will ask to come in for an interview or for your approval to submit your resume for consideration. Should the client have an interest in meeting with you or interviewing you over the phone, we will arrange this. At this point, you will be given directions, contact names and other pertinent information. I’ve sent in my resume. Why haven’t I been called? More than likely, you haven’t been called yet because your background as outlined on your resume has not matched any of our existing Job Orders. This will tell you what types of positions we are currently looking to fill. If you see any position(s) you feel you are qualified for, either give us a call or send us an e-mail with the job number of the position. One of our recruiters will get back to you with a response. Will my resume ever be sent to a client company without my knowledge? No. Technical Employment Services will always contact you by phone to get your approval prior to submitting your resume to and of our clients. Your resume will never be sent out without your knowledge and approval. We always make sure you are still available for work and interested in the position, salary, location, etc. Many of our competitors will send your resume out without your approval, so this is a good question to ask when dealing with other services. I’ve identified several positions on your web site that I am interested in. Do I need to send a resume with each response? No. After finding a position of interest on our web site, just call us or email us with the position job number. We will make sure that the recruiter responsible for the position is aware of your interest. The recruiter will review your resume for a possible match and contact you. The only time you need to send a new resume is to update your work history, education, certifications, etc. When doing so, please indicate on a cover letter that you are sending an updated resume. Are there any fees charged to job applicants? No, there are no fees at all to you. Even if the position turns into a permanent position with our client company, there are no fees charged to or accepted from any of our applicants. Are all jobs through Technical Employment Services contract positions, or are direct positions available as well? Positions available through Technical Employment Services fall into the following categories:
How long are most assignments through Technical Employment Services? While short-term assignments are occasionally available, most assignments through Technical Employment Services are long-term or contract to direct. On average, our contract positions usually last for 3 to 6 months. It is not unusual for a Technical Employment Services employee to remain on an assignment for more than a year. In addition, many job openings are positions which could lead to a direct hire. Technical Employment Services will not guarantee the duration of any assignment. Many factors affect the job’s duration, including employee performance, corporate or economic climate, mergers, contracts won or lost, etc.
What kinds of assignments will I receive? It depends on your skills, schedule, and requirements. Technical Employment Services has assignments for Engineers, Programmers, CAD Specialists, PC Technicians, LAN Administrators, Lab Technicians, Electronic Technicians and more. Our employees work in research and development, manufacturing, electronics, government, bio-tech, automotive, machine tool and many other industries. Do I have to accept every assignment offered to me? No. As a Technical Employment Services employee, you can accept or refuse any job. It’s totally up to you. However as with any commitment, once you accept an assignment for a specified time period, you will be expected to complete it. How much will I be paid? Your weekly pay is based on the hours you’ve worked and the agreed-upon pay rate for each assignment. As each assignment differs, your pay rate may vary depending on the skills you use. You can be assured the wages you will receive will be very competitive with the current market. As your employer, Technical Employment Services will deduct the necessary FICA and Federal and State taxes. You’ll receive a weekly paycheck in the mail, or it can be picked up at our office each week you work. Are there entry-level assignments available? Most of our clients need and expect experienced technical specialists. However, some entry-level assignments are occasionally available. Some of our clients prefer entry-level employees, as long as they have the appropriate educational background. Who supervises my work as a contract employee? Although you will be an employee of Technical Employment Services, your assignments will be supervised by someone at the client’s company. Questions about your actual work should be discussed with the on-site supervisor. What if the client to whom I’m assigned offers me a direct position with their company? At Technical Employment Services, we take the offer as evidence that our system and selection process worked well. While we don’t like losing good contract employees, we understand that many people are looking for permanent positions. Should you decide to accept the offer, your paychecks and benefits will be provided by the client company following your termination with Technical Employment Services. What if I move to another area? All you need to do is let one of our recruiters know your new location so we can update your file and begin searching for positions in your new area.
